You know you live with one of your best friends when you can ask ‘Shall I get my makeup out and play with your face?’ and it becomes a perfectly acceptable question. It’s a Tuesday night and we’ve just handed in our first project of our semester; while a lot of students might go out into town to celebrate, we ate chocolate as I applied my contour products to her face. I don’t consider my make-up skills to be anything special, or wonderful, but I’d like to think a lot of practise over the years has made me improve! I’ve decided to select a few of the products I used on my friend and talk about them, as they really are my go-to products for a perfect smokey eye.
I really can’t stop raving about the Fleur De Force eyeshadow quads. I was expecting them to be average quality, but I think the Cosmic Bronze palette has become my favourite eyeshadow quad that I own. The quality surpassed my expectations and I use this a few times a week, and If I’m creating a smokey eye (which I was applying onto my friend’s eye lids). The four shadows included have outstanding staying power and have a rich texture. I’ve featured these in a post especially dedicated to Fleur’s makeup range which was released a couple months ago.
I’ve never really been able to get on with fake eyelashes, so when it comes to mascaras, I like to be able to use one which adds some intense volume. One of my favourite mascaras to use with a smokey eye is the Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant dramatic impact & graphic precision one. The brush in in a tear drop shade, meaning a lot of product is applied to the outer lashes, making them appear fanned out and enhanced.
In my opinion, eyeliner is a must have with any smokey eye. For me, it completes the look – almost like a frame does to a photograph. I like to combine my previously-raved-about Mac Smoulder Kohl eyeliner pencil and the Revolution Double Flick Liquid Eyeliner. The Mac eyeliner pencil has a lovely soft texture which is easy to blend along the lower lash line with a small brush. The Revolution liquid eyeliner has some intense staying power. It’s been my favourite eyeliner I’ve used yet. It’s wonderful for adding a cat eye finish to your look.
